SOUTHEND United have been thwarted in their attempts to complete a deal for midfielder Bedsente Gomis.
Gomis has been training with Blues since September and manager Phil Brown is keen to bring him to the club on a permanent basis.
However, the Echo understands that complications in Spain – where Gomis played last season – have delayed the deal going through.
And the earliest it can now be completed is when the transfer window re-opens in January.
“It’s frustrating for all concerned but it’s out of the club’s hands this time,” said a source close to the club.
“The problem has arisen because Gomis’ last club (Almeria in Spain) was overseas.
“When that is the case, international transfer clearance is needed and unfortunately the club haven’t been able to obtain that in time due to complications.
“The deal cannot be done until January but Gomis wants to join and the club want to sign him so hopefully it can go through then.”
