C&K BASILDON Ladies returned to the top of the women’s South East Combination league table after a thumping 9-0 win at Luton Town.

Basildon got off to the best possible start with a goal after just eight minutes when Amy Nash struck the ball low into the corner of the net.

Basildon added a second goal after 22 minutes when Jenny Brown-Wealls fired home a penalty before Nicola Carty made it 3-0 with a dipping shot from 25 yards.

Any hopes that Luton had of getting back into the match disappeared in the 54th minute when Hannah Porter linked up well with Zoe Rushen, who laid the ball off to Brown-Wealls, who struck the ball over the goalkeeper from 30 yards.

A minute later Basildon added a fifth goal when a Luton goal kick was headed back into the penalty area, and Sara Sinclair was quickest to react before netting with a clinical finish.

Charlie Dolby soon fired home before Basildon made it four goals in the space of seven second half minutes with Carty on target again after Karissa Rodney’s initial shot had been saved.

Carty then turned provider as she set up Rodney to score before Basildon bagged their final goal in the 83rd minute when Megan Lawler’s quick throw found Rushen, who turned a Luton defender before curling the ball past the outstretched hand of the goalkeeper.
