SOUTHEND United striker Cauley Woodrow ended four weeks' worth of frustration by scoring the only goal of the game at AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day.

The on loan Fulham forward came off the bench to secure the Shrimpers a 1-0 win with a clinical close range header.

And the 18-year-old now wants more of the same at Accrington Stanley on Sunday.

“It's been frustrating not playing and being suspended so it was nice to come on and get the goal to help us win the game against Wimbledon,” said Woodrow who last started for Blues at Exeter City in mid-November.

“It's all about the team and we're in it together but, just like anyone else, I want to be starting matches and hopefully I can do that at Accrington now.

“I want to be playing as much as I can and I want to be helping Southend pick up more good wins to help us move higher up the table.”

Blues went up one place to sixth in the League Two standings after their narrow win at AFC Wimbledon who had winger George Francomb sent off for a strong challenge on Rob Kiernan in the 41st minute.

The Shrimpers had to dig deep to secure all three points and Woodrow was thrilled to net his fourth goal of the season.

“It was a great ball in from John White and he did exactly the same for me at Exeter,” said Woodrow.

“I celebrated by running to my family and friends who were at the game and hopefully we can all go on from here and pick up more points in the matches we have coming up.”

Blues could also have defender Luke Prosser back in contention for Sunday's game at Accrington.

The centre-back missed out with concussion against AFC Wimbledon yesterday.

But boss Phil Brown is hopeful Prosser will be available this weekend.

“Luke will be having more tests but he has a couple of days to recover and hopefully he'll come through fine,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“He wasn't quite ready for Wimbledon but he could be for Sunday.”

Accrington head in to the game sitting 18th in the table and have triumphed in just one of their last four games.”
