ASHLEY Miller says it was no surprise for him to see his old side Concord promoted to the Skrill South.

The defender, 24, is currently enjoying a good season as a wing-back for Rod Stringer’s promotion-chasing Bishop’s Stortford.

The Hertfordshire side are due to host the Beachboys in a league match tonight and Miller says he’s expecting a keenly-contested match.

“Concord are doing well so I’m sure they’ll be a few tackles flying in and it will be a tough game,” said Miller, who is likely to miss tonight’s game with a hamstring injury.

“I was there for a few years and I enjoyed it, and I also enjoyed playing against them when I was at Canvey.

“But I was not surprised to see Concord get promoted last year because they have that hard-working mentality and some good players.

“I know they’ve come all the way from the Essex Senior League, but they are a good team.”

Miller has been in impressive form this campaign and scored his side’s first goal as they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Dover in front of crowd of 615 at The Crabble on Saturday.

Former Canvey striker Cliff Akurang – who played in central defence – scored the equaliser and Brian Woodall grabbed an 84th-minute winner to complete a comeback which moved the Blues into fourth in the table.

Miller said: “We had a few bad results over Christmas but overall it’s been a good season for us.

“We’re fourth and we’ve beaten the top teams like Bromley and Ebbsfleet, and our main target now is the play-offs.”

Concord’s match at Bromley on Saturday was called off because of a water-logged pitch and Danny Cowley’s side will be hoping to play their first game since Boxing Day tonight.
