DANNY Cowley joked he has been left fearing for his job – because Concord keep winning!

The Beachboys sent shockwaves through the Skrill South when they inflicted a first home defeat of the season on runaway leaders Bromley.

That made it five wins, three draws and one defeat from their last nine league games and moved the division newcomers to within three points of the play-offs.

An unlikely promotion to the pro ranks of the Skrill Premier for Concord, who have already had nose-bleed success with promotions in recent years, is likely to give the club’s hierarchy kittens.

And Cowley says that was humorously explained to him after Tuesday night’s stunning 2-1 success at Hayes Lane.

He said: “Jack Smith (Concord’s treasurer) said to me afterwards that if I keep winning they will have to give me the sack!

“To be fair to him, he is in charge of the purse strings here, so I can understand where he is coming from.”

Concord’s win at Bromley was by no means a smash-and-grab and Cowley paid tribute to his patched up side.

He said: “From 35 minutes on I thought we were the better team, and once we got our equaliser we were always in control.

“We were without Danny Glozier and Leon Gordon, Jack Powell has just gone back to Millwall, and we lost Jack Lampe to an injury.

“So for us to put on a performance like that is very pleasing.”

And despite moving to within striking distance of the top five, Cowley is adamant the target remains their 50-point survival target.

He said: “We’ve now got 31 points and we’ve earned the right to look up rather down.

“But we are very respectful of the teams below us because there are some big clubs among them.

“Now we have to recover from a big effort to face another really good side in Tonbridge on Saturday.

“But if we can get to 50 points before the end of the season then we will redefine our objectives.”
