SOUTHEND United’s Kevan Hurst hopes to keep on getting stick from opposition supporters this season.

The in-form winger was singled out for abuse by Chesterfield fans both during Saturday’s game, which Blues won 3-0, and on Twitter.

But the 28-year-old will happily take any criticisms coming his way from the stands.

“I quite enjoy it all to be honest and it must mean I’m doing something right,” said Hurst, who scored the opening goal against his former side at Roots Hall at the weekend.

“When I was at Scunthorpe, Billy Sharp was always getting stick but he just smiled, gave a bit back and would then score every week.

"Sometimes the stick can get a bit personal but I think it means you’re doing well so it’s all fine by me.”

Hurst will be now be bidding for more of the same when the Shrimpers host Hull City in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Roots Hall this weekend.

And he cannot wait to test himself against players from the top division.

“The FA Cup can generate a real buzz and we’re seeing that this week,” said Hurst.

“There’s extra media attention, I’m sure there will be a big crowd and as players we’re looking forward to playing against some of the best players in the country.”
