SOUTHEND United’s Michael Timlin has already forgotten about how close he came to being a potential FA Cup hero against Hull City.

And the midfielder is instead choosing to focus on beating Dagenham & Redbridge at Victoria Road this evening.

Timlin slammed a spectacular 35 yard shot against the crossbar when the game with Hull was still goalless.

But the effort is no longer frustrating the 28-year-old.

“As soon as the shot bounced back off the bar I ran to try and charge down their right-back and I had forgotten about it even then to be honest,” said Timlin.

“When I hit it I thought it was going straight at the goalkeeper but when it started to move away I thought it might have a chance.

“I needed to have a bit of luck and for it to just dip a tiny bit lower but it’s gone now and there’s no point even thinking about what could have been.

“We have another game to be focusing on against Dagenham and hopefully the breaks will go our way this time.”

Blues slipped down to seventh in the League Two table due to their cup exploits at the weekend.

Phil Brown’s side remain three places higher than Dagenham.

But Timlin is expecting a very tough test tonight.

“This game will be more difficult than a lot of people will be expecting,” said Timlin.

“People associate Dagenham with struggling towards the bottom of the table but that’s not the case this year and they have some very talented players.

“The games we have against them always seem to be entertaining and it’s a bit of a local derby as well so there’s always a good atmosphere too.

“The players not from the north of the country will soon know what it means and we always have a good following there so hopefully we can give them plenty to cheer about.”
