CRAIG Reid is close to leaving Southend United.

The 28-year-old striker joined the Shrimpers on a free transfer from Aldershot Town at the start of the season but has struggled to work his way in to the team.

Reid has made just two starts and six substitute appearances this term.

But he is now in talks with club chiefs about ending his time at Roots Hall.

“Craig is talking about his contract with the chief executive and I’m waiting to hear an update about that,” confirmed Blues boss Phil Brown.

Reid has not played for the Shrimpers mid-October and has fallen down the pecking order since the return of Lee Barnard.
