LONDON One North leaders Westcliff moved two points clear of their title rivals Eton Manor with a resounding 60-7 win against Woodford.

Westcliff scored 10 tries during the comprehensive victory.

And first team manager Rick Compton heaped praise on the performance.

“It was another satisfying display with the lads functioning well as a team,” said Compton.

“There was also more evidence of our improving ability to manage the game and play the right rugby in the right areas.”

Woodford had won their previous three games before facing Westcliff and they started well at the weekend.

But, having showcased their defensive abilities, the hosts began to assert themselves as an attacking force and scored their first try when Sam Reynolds broke from the base of a scrum just outside the Woodford 22 to surge through to score.

Soon it was the turn of his brother Buster to score coming off his wing on a decisive line that allowed him to receive a scoring pass and double the hosts lead to 10-0.

Just minutes later, a relentless short distance attack on the visitors line saw prop Ewan Binneman bundle over and Jack Jones added the first of five conversions to make it 17-0.

More points followed as half time approached when an attack down the left flank was finished off by Jim Smith who evaded would be tacklers to score near to the posts allowing a routine conversion to create a 24-0 interval lead.

Harley Skidmore and Dave Cosgrove were introduced from the bench and Westcliff started the second half as they had ended the first.

Sam Reynolds quickly added a second try to his personal tally as did brother Buster just a few minutes later.

Within two minutes of that score Chris Dudman also went over and with more than 20 minutes still to play the score had stretched already to 41-0.

It was clear by now that there was little hope of Woodford taking anything tangible from the game, but they continued to contest with spirit and were rewarded with a try from veteran their veteran number Robbie Connell which was converted.

However, Westcliff hit back with three more tries in the final 15 minutes with Sam Reynolds completed his hat-trick before Dudman and Elliott Harvey also touched down.
