SOUTH Essex Gymanastics Club are hosting a team from Belgium at the Basildon Sporting Village this week for a six-day training camp.

The all-male group of four seniors and two juniors, along with their coach, will arrive in Basildon on Saturday and will leave on Friday.

South Essex juniors Hayden Skinner and Douglas Turnbull will join the senior club stars including Max Whitlock and Reiss Beckford in training sessions with their European visitors.

It is not the first time the club has hosted international visitors, and head coach Scott Hann says it is a great way to share ideas and foster useful partnerships.

He said: “When I was an up and coming coach I used to go all over to get experience and it was something that really helped me to develop.

“Now it’s gone full circle a bit and we’re the club which welcomes people to come and see how we manage to run a sustainable club which also achieves great success.

“Their team features a couple from Belgium’s national team, but they are coming from a club, so it is a lot like our set-up.

“They wanted to come to England and they’d heard about the success we’d had with Max (Whitlock) and Brinn (Bevan) so they got in touch.

“It should be a good week and all of our guys are buzzing about having some new faces here.”
