CRAIG Reid has had his contract cancelled at Southend United after a disappointing six month spell with the Shrimpers.

The 28-year-old striker joined the Shrimpers on a free transfer from Aldershot Town at the start of the season but has struggled to work his way in to the team.

He made just two starts and six substitute appearances for Southend.

And, as was revealed in last week's Echosport, the forward has now left the club.

"Things didn't really work out for the Craig at the football club but it was certainly not because of his attitude or effort and we wish him all the very best for the future," said Blues boss Phil Brown.

"I'm sure Craig will go on to score for someone else in his career but being honest I can't see that being at this level.

"Bob Shaw, our chief scott, is doing a great job and our recruitment of players has been very good indeed.

"We've picked up Ben Coker, John White and Will Atkinson among others who have all been fantastic but I think Craig is one we got wrong."
