5:59pm

Phil Brown, Southend United manager

"It's frustrating but the whole place just seemed a bit flat today. You have to give Exeter credit though and I thought they played with a verve and tempo we just couldn't ever seem to get ourselves. After going 2-1 up we should've been able to see it out but we didn't defend well enough and Exeter deserved to win.

"Now we need to see the right kind of reaction. We need to get back out there, roll our sleeves up and get stuck in not just lie back and think of England."

5:19pm

Paul Tisdale, Exeter City manager:

"I thought we played really well today and deserved all three points.

"We conceded two goals by Southend overpowering us in the box but I feel we played the conditions really well.

"The pitch was really sticky and muddy, to be honest I was surprised it was on with the weather we have had recently so hats off to Southend's ground staff today.

"We played the ball well around the park and Jimmy Keohane behind O'Flynn worked really well for us and their movement was excellent today.

"Chrissy Pym knew at ten to two today he was going to start in goal and I think that's the best for an 18 year old making his debut because he doesn't have time to worry or get nervous.

"He played well and we came away with all three points today which is great for the team.
