BARRY Corr insists Southend United were buoyed by their performance against Hartlepool United, if not the result.

The Shrimpers had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Monkeyhangers at Roots Hall on Tuesday night as the visitors’ Bradley Walker cancelled out Corr’s opening goal.

But the Irish striker was pleased with the manner of Blues’ display despite their winless streak being extended to six matches.

“I thought it was a much better performance compared to the ones in recent weeks which have been disappointing,” said Corr, 28.

“We’re frustrated that we didn’t win the game but the manager said he was pleased with the performance, and so were we as players.

“We had a lot of chances to win the game but you have to give credit to Hartlepool for their defensive efforts, and for their goal.

“Our heads could have dropped once we conceded a goal like that especially as we had been on top, but we kept going.

“And I’m not really sure how they kept Kevan Hurst’s shot out at the end.”

The draw kept the Shrimpers seventh in the League Two table.

But Corr is certain they will soon get back to winning ways if they can consistently perform like they did against Hartlepool.

“If we keep playing like that we’ll definitely start picking wins up again soon,” said Corr.

“We have two tough away games coming up against York and Northampton now but hopefully we can pick up three points against them.”

Corr also wants to help make that happen by again hitting the back of the net.

And, after five games without a goal, he was thrilled to get back on to the score-sheet with a neat finish against Hartlepool.

“As a striker I want to be scoring goals so it was nice to get one, but I went close a couple of other times to getting a second,” said Corr, who has now scored seven goals this term.

“The ball in from Hursty was a good one and I just moved my feet to tap it into the far corner.

“Hopefully I can go on to get a few more now and help us pick up some good results.”
