SOUTHEND roared back to winning ways with an impressive 32-17 win at Launceston in National Two South on Saturday.

The Seasiders had lost five games in a row before making the long trip to Cornwall.

But they got back on track with an impressive display which delighted their head of rugby Chris Green.

“I thought we were outstanding and we’re only the second visiting team to have gone there and won this season so I think that says a lot about the performance,” said Green.

“The week before against Bishop’s Stortford was as poor as we have been all season.

“Anything that could’ve gone wrong did go wrong but I think it was just a one off.

“The games before that we had lost we had still played well in and it was good to get back to that and to also get the win at Launceston.”

Fly-half Brad Burr led the way with 14 points which included his first try of the season, plus two conversions and a penalty.

Tom Gannon, Sam Nash, Danny Cleare and Craig Strachan also touched down as Southend moved up to eighth in the standings.

The Seasiders have now seven matches remaining and Green is targeting a strong end to the season.

“The games we have left are against teams towards the bottom or around us in the table so we’re looking to finish well and move up the table,” said Green.

“We have London Irish Wild Geese at home this weekend and it would be good to get back to winning ways there after we disappointed there against Bishop’s Stortford.

“Three of our next four games are at home as well and we want to pick up the points in them now.”
