SOUTHEND High School for Boys’ latest generation of cross-country runners ensured the school continued its dominance over the rest of the county.

The school won both team titles in the Year 7 and Year 8 Essex Schools Cross-Country Championships at a sodden Hylands Park in Chelmsford.

It kept up a fantastic run for the school which has seen them win both the Year 7 and Year 8 age group 11 times in the 12 years the event has been running.

On top of that, some fantastic individual runs ensured 10 of their athletes will go on to represent their county in a southern intercounties match, also at Chelmsford, on March 29.

The Year 7 boys team was led home by Luca Albon in fourth place, two spots ahead of Daniel Monk.

This pair both qualified for the Essex team, as did team-mates Ethan Bird (13th), Lucas McNamara (19th) and Thomas Weston (20th).

The Year 8 team was spearheaded by Noah Chilvers who finished in 12th, with Tom Jorge (13th), Harison Oakley (14th), Harry Smith (15th) and Tom Stuttle (17th) all finishing in quick succession.

All five of those boys will also wear the claret of Essex Schools in the intercounties schools competition.

The Year 7 B-team finished sixth out of 25 teams, while the Year 8 B-team were ninth out of 26 teams.
