IT’S been a positive week for us and it’s important we take that mindset in to the match at Morecambe this weekend.

We were originally planning on having two games on Tuesday against Colchester and Gillingham and had a number of youngsters lined up to play.

Unfortunately, the game at Gillingham fell victim to the weather but we took a strong side to Colchester and I was pleased by how those involved played.

We won the match 3-0 with goals from Jack Payne, Bedsente Gomis and Lee Barnard and I was particularly pleased for Barney.

You could see his confidence grow as soon as he got on to the score-sheet and he was different class after that to be honest.

Lee has missed a lot of football this season so he’s still playing catch up which can be hard but there were signs against Colchester that he’s nearly back to his best now and that’s great news.

He played in a front three along with Freddy Eastwood and Jack Payne which did well and certainly gave me food for thought which is what these games are all about.

Conor Clifford did well too along with Gomis so it was certainly a worthwhile exercise.

The focus is now very much on Saturday’s game and trying to get ourselves back on track.

I know we haven’t won for eight league games but we haven’t actually been beaten in five of them so you can look at that two ways.

Ideally we would’ve picked up more points and we’ve been looking at everything this week to desperately try and work out what has been missing.

We’ve looked the energy levels of the players, we’ve been through the tactics, we’ve looked at the mental side of everything and the physical side with our strength and conditioning coaches as well.

We’ve analysed absolutely everything but I think there’s a positive feel back in this group again now and I’m sure that will show at Morecambe on Saturday.

INJURY UPDATE

LUKE Prosser and Adam Thompson are still out with calf injuries and we’re currently looking at alternative ways to try and speed up their recoveries.

They have both been up to London to look at the options available, which included cryotherapy.

It is quite expensive but it is supposed to speed up the healing process so it’s something we’re certainly considering doing at the moment.

TRYING TO BRING IN NEW PLAYERS

WE’RE all still working very hard to bring players in to the football club but there aren’t really too many developments to talk about at the moment.

We’re way down the line in terms of talking to clubs about players but we’re at the stage where we’re very much waiting for them to come back to us.

I’ve been going to a number of games to look at players and also enjoyed being at Wembley for the England match last night.

But hopefully something will happen soon and I’ll be able to tell you about some new signings in next week’s column.
