ANDY Eastham looks set to make his Southend debut when they host London Irish Wild Geese in National Two South at Warners Bridge tomorrow.

The 34-year-old centre has opted to swap codes for a short period to team up with the Seasiders from the Oulton Raiders.

And Eastham, who is a long term friend of the club’s director of rugby Chris Green, will be travelling down from Leeds to feature in training sessions and matches for Southend.

“I’ve known Chris since we were kids so I’m only too happy to come in and hopefully I can help the team get a good result tomorrow,” said Eastham.

“I’m coming in for an initial month or so to fill a void which I believe has been created by a few injuries but I’m looking forward to it and hopefully it will be too much trouble coming back to Union because I’ve played it quite a lot over the years.”

Eastham has previously played rugby union with Otley and for the Great Britain police team.

And he expects to be impressed by the set up Green has created in Southend.

“Knowing Chris like I do I’m sure everything will be done very professionally,” said Eastham.

“I know he has the club in his heart and works hard to help them do well so I’m pleased to be able to be a part of that.

“I will be going back to play Rugby League when I’m not needed by Southend anymore but I’ll be speaking with Chris and it might end up being longer than a month that I’m here.”

Southend head in to tomorrow’s game sitting eighth in the standings and will be looking to build on last Saturday’s 32-17 win at Launceston.

As they attempt to do so they will also be boosted by the return of prop Michael Guess and captain James Kellard.

However, influential back row Daniel Legge is expected to miss out along with new signing, winger Nick Fraser.

London Irish Wild Geese are 10th in the table but have won their last four games.
