SOUTHEND United’s winless streak was extended to 12 matches following an uneventful 0-0 draw against Bury at Roots Hall this afternoon.

John Egan’s late header was the only effort either side managed on target all afternoon.

And the Shrimpers were forced to play the final eight minutes of the match with 10 men after Barry Corr was sent off for a tangle with Shakers defender Frederic Veseli.

After a slow start to the game, Blues momentarily came to life when Ryan Leonard charged forward and shotover the crossbar from 25 yards.

Moments later, an inviting left wing cross from Anthony Straker flew across the six yard box before Kevan Hurst sent a low, 20 yard shot just past the right post with his left foot.

The start of the second half was equally as uneventful before Blues should have taken the lead in the 56th minute when Straker teed up Freddy Eastwood only for the striker to fire over the crossbar from eight yards.

Eastwood was immediately replaced in attack by Barry Corr as part of a double change which also Will Atkinson coming on for Conor Clifford in the midfield.

Blues made their final substitution of the game in the 76th minute with Lee Barnard replacing Straker but, six minutes later, they were reduced to 10 men when Corr was dismissed.

After that, the Shrimpers rarely threatened and Phil Brown’s side have still not won since mid January.
