ROSS Merrick insists Westcliff will be focusing on just their own form and results during the remainder of the London One North season.

Second placed Westcliff host second from bottom Diss this weekend.

And Merrick is solely thinking winning the game and not how table-topping Eton Manor may be getting on.

“It is close between the top three and every point is going to count but it's not about watching others it's about focusing on each week and our own performances,” stressed the winger.

“We know we have what it takes to be on top come that last final whistle and that’s all we’re thinking about tomorrow.”

Westcliff are a point behind Eton Manor with four games to go.

Manor remain pole position after beating Westcliff 8-0 a fortnight ago.

But Merrick was thrilled to help the side get back to winning ways by scoring a hat-trick of tries in last weekend’s convincing 57-6 triumph against Chingford.

“It was great to get back to winning ways after the loss we had,” said Merrick.

“It was a result we knew we were capable of and we wanted to right some wrongs from our last encounter with Chingford which we lost.

“It's a competitive squad we have here too so if you want a place you need to take the opportunities when they are there so I was also glad I could do my job and get some tries by my name.”

Merrick will now be aiming for more of the same against Diss this weekend.

And he is certain the dryer conditions will suit his side well as they to secure another victory.

“In the winter it was difficult to play our style of rugby and we have had to adapt our game, but now we can get back to attacking wide play and scoring tries which feels great,” said Merrick.

“I would say it's going to be a difficult game against Diss but they all are at this stage in the season as every game counts for so much.

“I think they will try to slow us down, be physical up front and put us under as much pressure as possible to try and stop us going wide.

“But we know all that from most teams, so we will have to come together on the day as we know we can and put in another good performance.”
