SOUTHEND High School for Boys are celebrating an amazing day of success.

Last week, the school won four county titles in three sports and four different age groups on one day.

Firstly, their Year 7 and Year 9 basketball teams both tasted glory.

The Year 7s thrashed St Martins, of Brentwood, 71-37 in their final. Luca Albon led the way with 18 points while Daniel Monk and Tom Weston turned in star performances.

The Year 9s, meanwhile, made it a hat-trick of Essex titles by beating a strong King John School team 76-55 in their final with Ross Luckman scoring an impressive 38 points.

Outside on the rugby field, the school’s Year 8 team were in scintillating form at the Essex Rugby Festival final, held at Thurrock Rugby Club, where they won all four of their matches and didn’t even concede a try.

The side’s leading try scorer was Sam Bennett while Lewis Barrett impressed throughout.

To cap it all off, the school’s Year 10 and 11 hockey team defeated Sanders Draper school 3-1 to win the Essex plate final at Chelmer Park. Lewis Collins got two goals while David Ashworth got the other.

The Year 9 hockey team came so close to making it yet another county triumph for the school, but lost out in their plate final to Newport free school.
