ROSS Merrick bagged a sensational six tries in Westcliff’s emphatic 105-5 win against Diss on London One North on Saturday.

The winger bagged 30 points to take his tally to nine tries in his last two outings.

And he was thrilled to help his high-flying team secure another vital London One North victory in their pursuit of promotion.

“To be on the end of some great plays and skilful rugby and finishing the chances I got was a great feeling, especially in front of a home crowd,” said Merrick.

“When the team gets into a habit of playing rugby to the standard we have shown recently it’s a boost for the whole squad, and we need to carry that to our next fixtures.

“While our game against Diss shows what we can do with our attack, we are under no illusions that our next game against Luton is going to be a tough encounter, but we know what is expected of us.”

Second-placed Westcliff remain a point behind league leaders Eton Manor with just three games to go.

But Merrick was pleased to keep up the pressure on their East London rivals by producing another strong performance.

And he now wants the team to build on the impressive display.

“It is obviously a hugely important run of games for us, so we’re ready to do whatever it takes to earn the points,” said Merrick.

“We went into the Diss game knowing they needed the win to stay up, so we were expecting a real fight.

“But on the day we did what we set out to do and proved how much we want to finish this season on a high.

“Now we need to go and do the same against Luton this weekend and it’s another important game because they’re just below us in the table.”
