Jamar Loza - looking to build on his impressive debut

JAMAR Loza is aiming to build on his impressive home debut when Southend United host Torquay at Roots Hall tomorrow.

Loza produced a magnificent man of the match display to help the Shrimpers see off Oxford United in his first start last Monday.

And the on loan Norwich City striker now wants more of the same this weekend against the Gulls.

“We all need to kick on from the Oxford game and make sure we get another three points when we play Torquay,” said Loza.

“I want to do all I can to help Southend get promotion and that means we need to get a win at the weekend and get back in to the play-off positions.”

Loza made two and scored the other in Blues’ 3-0 win against Oxford as Phil Brown’s side ended a run of 13 games without a victory.

The striker caused the O’s problems all evening and was thrilled to get off to such a good start with the Shrimpers.

“I was really up for the game and I was really pleased with how it went,” said Loza.

“I’ve been so hungry to get a chance like this and now I want to be able to repay Phil Brown for giving me the opportunity.

“It was also great to get the goal and the fact I kept on going showed how determined I was to get it.

“Before coming in I knew the team had been struggling for goals and that was something I wanted to help sort.”

Loza is therefore keen to hit the back of the net again against Torquay tomorrow.

And he feels even sharper for the show-down after a week’s worth of training with his new team-mates.

“I’m getting to know everyone now and that definitely helps,” said the striker.

“Getting games is the best way for me to learn and improve and I cannot wait to get back out there tomorrow.”

Blues have no new injury concerns for the game but will again be missing the suspended Barry Corr who completes a three match suspension following his red card against Bury.

New signing Jacob Murphy goes straight in to the squad after signing on loan from Norwich City while defender Adam Thompson is available again after recovering from a calf injury.
