EAST Thurrock United boss John Coventry is hoping his side can improve their performance from Tuesday when they take on Ryman Premier League leaders Wealdstone tonight.

East Thurrock United crumbled to a 3-1 defeat at home to Harrow Borough on Tuesday as they continue their fight against relegation.

Victor Osobu gave the visitors a ninth minute lead before Sam Higgins equalised from the penalty spot 27 minutes into the match.

But two minutes later Marc Charles-Smith put Harrow back in front before Jake Gilbert added the third goal on the stroke of half time.

Tonight Wealdstone visit Rookery Hill and a win could send them 13 points clear at the top of the table as they surge towards promotion.

Coventry said he was “disappointed” with Tuesday’s showing but hopes his side – currently in the drop zone – can pick up their game.

“We have done better against teams higher up in the league,” he said. “That has been annoying in itself. On Saturday we played brilliantly against Maidstone at their place to get a draw but then go and lose to Harrow who are not that far away from us in the table.

“Wealdstone will be tough and we’ll make a couple of changes to the side from Tuesday to freshen things up, but we’ll give it our best.”
