Rochdale manager Keith Hill: "It was a difficult, tense game and I think the tension showed in the performance. There looked as if there was a little bit of a crisis of confidence for the players and it didn't get any better for us from the first mistakes onwards.

"It's disappointing but you have to collect your positive energy and make sure you move on to the next available opportunity. We have three more opportunities but we can't afford to perform with those type of nerves and make those kind of mistakes and expect to get where we want to get to.

"It's OK wanting to achieve but you have to have the bravery and commitment and if you have that it turns you into a better person and a better team.

“Really, the two goals in the first half and the one just after half time were evidently mistakes from our players. We didn't show a lot of great intent because there wasn't a lot of composure in our football and we played in a different style than I expect.

"But this is no time to throw in the towel or spit the dummy out."

Southend United assistant manager Dave Penney: “We’ve done really well against the top few teams this season and we reminded the players of that before the game. We’ve been to places like Burton, Oxford and Chesterfield and won and it seems to suit us when the other team also want to play a bit of football. We were confident coming here and fully expected to get something from the game.
“We gave Jacob Murphy his first start and he was fantastic for that hour. He has blinding pace and was also very cool in front in goal. Not many people would’ve passed that ball like he did for Barry Corr to score and then he showed good energy to score himself. He has blinding pace but hasn’t played too much so he’s fitness is lagging behind a little bit and that’s why he had to come off.
“We’re pleased with him and the third goal really killed it off after that. It’s set us up nicely for the Easter period and now we need to go and get something in our game against Accrington on Monday."

Rochdale 0, Blues 3

Four minutes of stoppage time to be played.

Attendance 3, 884 with 421 from Blues

He replaces Kevan Hurst, no lucky head-band though!

Luke Prosser about to come on

Loza on for Corr

Think Jamal Loza could be on soon

Anthony Straker on for Jacob Murphy

Ryan Leonard sends a long range shot against the crossbar.

Looks like Anthony Straker could be about to come on.

Rochdale have the ball in the net but it's ruled out for offside.

Kevan Hurst booked for a foul

Leeds manager Brian McDermott is at the game today.

Kevan Hurst made the goal as his left wing cross picked out Michael Timlin who volleyed in to the bottom right hand corner of the net from 10 yards.

Rochdale 0, Blues 3. Michael Timlin

Double change at the break for Rochdale. Jamie Allen on for Peter Cavanagh & Peter Vincenti on for Michael Rose

Rochdale 0, Blues 2

Four minutes of stoppage time to be played

Great play from Will Atkinson for the goal. He played in Ryan Leonard. His shot was heading wide but Jacob Murphy volleyed it home at the far post.

Rochdale 0, Blues 2. Jacob Murphy

Rochdale's fans starting to get on the back of their players.

Jacob Murphy looking very bright for Blues so far.

Big blow for Rochdale as their top goalscorer Scott Hogan limps off injured. He's replaced by George Donnelly.

Certainly plenty going on at the moment.

Michael Timlin intercepts a weak backpass. He rounds the keeper but his effort is cleared off the line by Oliver Lancashire.

Still laughing at the Easter Bunney gag to be honest!

Hogan didn't look happy there. Sulk Hogan. Couldn't resist, sorry.

Another big chance for Rochdale. Matt Lund charges through but Scott Hogan gets in his way and he fires over.

WOW. Stunning long range shot from Henderson smashes against the underside of the crossbar.

It's been a fiery start. Challenges are flying in from both sides and the fans are making themselves heard.

Rochdale almost equalise as Matt Done's low, left footed shot flies just inches wide of the right post.

Very unselfish play from Jacob Murphy. He was clean through and squared ball to Barry Corr who tapped home in to an empty net.

Rochdale 0, Southend 1. Barry Corr on target

With a name like Bunney he should probably be on form at Easter. Imagine the headlines.

Big chance for Rochdale's Joe Bunney but he slices a left footed shot well wide of the left post.

Personally very pleased the game has started. Means the loudest pre-match music I think I've ever heard has come to an end. Headache central!
