Southend Rugby Club's David Jackson: Whoever is more up for the game will win

DAVID Jackson feels whoever is most up for the game will come out on top when Southend host Cambridge in National Two South on Saturday.

The Seasiders head in to the game sitting eighth in the National Two South table while Cambridge are fifth with just two matches left to play.

And Jackson therefore feels whoever displays the best attitude will win when the two teams clash this weekend.

“Cambridge are in the same position as us really with no promotion possibilities or relegation danger, so it will all depend on who can get up the most to win this game,” said Jackson.

“I expect it to be a game with plenty of open running and we will want to bounce back from the defeat to Exmouth we suffered last weekend.”

Southend were beaten 34-27 against bottom of the table Exmouth.

But Jackson is expecting there to be big improvements tomorrow.

“We started well against Exmouth but then took our foot off the throttle and let a team back into the game who have had some strong form at home recently,” said Jackson.

“We let ourselves down on defence but to be fair it has been a long season with a small squad who have worked hard together all season so I wouldn't read too much into it and I’m sure we will play better against Cambridge.

“We are motivated to finish the season well and with two home games to go we want to throw the ball around and reward our fans with some running rugby like we did last home game against Bournemouth.”
