Southend United striker Barry Corr: "The red card I got was soft but I was silly and after it happened I wanted to repay the lads and the fans for the support they have shown me.

“I obviously didn’t want it but maybe the little break I had actually did me a bit of good because I had been playing a lot of games up front on my own and it might have been taking its toll a bit.

“But I’ve got three in four now which I’m delighted about and this win was massive for us because we wanted to get everything sorted and take the pressure off of the last two games.

“We could see the fans were getting frustrated and I think that made us frustrated too but we kept patient and we got there in the end.”

Accrington Stanley manager James Beattie: "The lads were tremendous today, we frustrated Southend in the first half and quietened the crowd. I made a few changes to freshen it up a bit. I believe you need to at this stage of the season and it gives me a chance to take a closer look at some of my players.

"I'm not sure about the drop ball decision which led to Southend's goal. We agreed to play the ball back but the referee thought otherwise but that's gone now. The game is over and we need to focus on our remaining games.

The result is frustrating because our keeper only made one save all game and the other time he touched the ball he was picking it out of the net. We came here with a game plan and I thought it worked well for us.

"I'm 99.9 per cent confident we have secured our place in this division."

Southend United manager Phil Brown: "There was probably a bit of anxiety around this game and it’s probably why I’m starting to show signs of age.

“The grey hairs are coming through more regularly and my blood pressure is probably starting to rise as well but it’s all very close and very important too at this stage of the season.

“The result was exactly what we needed though and after our best result of the season at Rochdale on Friday I think getting three points here was probably our best grind of the season too.

“When we knew the top three were out of reach we focused on the play-offs and now we’re there we will focus on trying to win them.

“We still have two league games to go against Fleetwood and Burton who have been up there all season.

“They will give us real tests but we want to take this winning mentality in to those games and maintain this momentum ahead of the play-offs.

“I’m also delighted with the clean sheet mentality we have at this football club now and that also needs to be in place for the play-offs.”

Full time: Blues 1, Accrington 0. Only a 10 goal swing with Oxford can now stop Southend making the play-offs.

Four minutes of added on time to be played

Luke Prosser on for Barry Corr

Volley from Shay McCartan is well saved by Daniel Bentley who pushes the ball wide of the left post

Jamar Loza tees up Barry Corr but he scuffs shot wide of the left post from eight yards. Good chance that.

Second change for the visitors as Shay McCarrtan comes on for James Gray

Conor Clifford on for Jacob Murphy

My guess would be for Murphy

Conor Clifford about to come on

Accrington sub - Kayode Odejayi on for Kal Naismith

Jacob Murphy's cross to Kevan Hurst, back to Will Atkinson who teed up Barry Corr. He fired 12 yard shot in to bottom left hand corner of the net.

Blues 1, Accrington 0. Barry Corr

Still 0-0 at Roots Hall. Just gone past the hour mark.

Loza on for Michael Timlin

Jamar Loza getting ready to come on

I think Jamar Loza's pace could cause problems for Accrington. Would expect him to be the first change.

The second half is underway

Attendance: 5, 915 with 77 from Accrington

Blues 0, Accrington 0

Ryan Leonard heads a right wing cross from John White inches wide of the left post.

Sokolik back on after a change of shirt.

Jakub Sokolik currently receiving treatment for a cut on his face.

20 minutes in, no shots and no goals.

Accrington have sun cream at the front of their bench!

15 minutes in and it's still 0-0 at Roots Hall. Not much going on so far.

York winning 1-0 against Bury

Scunthorpe go 1-0 up against Oxford.

Peter Murphy backed for a foul on Jacob Murphy

The game is underway

All the stars here today. Kevin Maher, Steve Tilson and Jeremy Kyle!

Kevan Hurst makes his 100th appearance for Southend today.

Accrington: Bettinelli, Murphy, Liddle, Joyce, Aldred, Winnard, Hatfield, Naismith, Mingola, Gray, Buxton

Subs: McCartan, Webber, Hunt, Windass, Odejayi, Atkinson & Bowerman

So if we all think Southend are going to lose, they will win. That's how it seems to be going at the moment!

Blues boss Phil Brown has named an unchanged starting line-up for this afternoon’s game against Accrington Stanley at Roots Hall.

Centre back Jakub Sokolik and winger Kevan Hurst have both shaken off slight knocks to take their place in the side.

But there is one change on the bench with Conor Clifford coming in for Marc Laird.
