Westcliff's Charlie Brown makes England bow
WESTCLIFF prop forward Charlie Brown has labelled his international debut as “amazing” despite England under 18s side failing to win at the Tri Nations tournament in France.
The youngsters were seen off by both Ireland and France at the Centre National de Rugby in Marcoussis, But Brown still loved every second of the games.
“This was my first England cap and I found the whole experience amazing,” said Brown.
“I have only known some of these lads 13-14 days in total, which is spread over two weekend training camps at Loughborough University and then the week in Marcoussis.
“Yet I have made some friends that I will keep for the rest of my life.
“Singing the national anthem with the brothers I was training, eating and living with was such a privilege and I think I will struggle to find something that compares to this.”
England were seen off 30-22 by Ireland before they were beaten 23-9 by France who went on to win the competition.
“I have been playing at Westcliff for coming up to nine years now and I believe they were the people who put me in the shirt,” said Brown.
“I owe them for that and I’m very grateful for everything they have done.”
However, Brown is not sure who he will be playing for next season.
“The future is still unclear because of university I’m just not sure where I might be,” said the teenager. But, of course, I intend to carry on playing no matter where I am.”
