SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Daniel Bentley insists he has not been distracted by rumours linking him with a move from Roots Hall.

The 20-year-old shot-stopper has attracted interest from Championship club Leeds United after keeping 19 clean sheets this term.

But the Wickford based youngster is solely focused on the remainder of the season, starting with tomorrow’s long trip to Fleetwood Town.

“I’m just thinking about matters on the pitch and I’m not going to be distracted by what might be happening off it,” said Bentley.

“I’m a Southend United player, I’m happy here, it’s my local club, I’m playing regularly and I’m certainly not looking to go anywhere.

“I will keep giving 100 per cent here until somebody tells me differently but that’s out of my hands really so I don’t think about.

“I’m just focusing on the games we have coming up and making sure we get a good result against Fleetwood tomorrow.”

Blues head in to the game sitting sixth in the League Two play-offs.

And Bentley is keen for the Shrimpers to prove their worth against fourth placed Fleetwood who they could yet face in the end of season play-offs.

“Unless something really drastic happens we will be in the play-offs and our next two games will be dress rehearsals for them,” said the former Bromfords School pupil.

“We have Fleetwood first and then Burton which are both big games and it’s funny how it’s worked out.”

Bentley also has his sights set on keeping another clean sheet which would see him reach the target he set himself at the start of the season.

““I’m happy to say we’ve very close to the target I set myself and that’s 20,” said the shot-stopper.

“I’d love to make it three in a row and reach my target against Fleetwood “It’s a fantastic achievement for the whole team to have picked up 19 clean sheets so far and have the best defensive record in the division.

“But if we get another one tomorrow then we won’t lose the game and we’ll get the point we need to make mathematically sure we’re in the play-off places at the end of the season.”
