ROCHFORD Hundred held their May Saturday medal with three handicapper Andrew Frye comfortably winning the top division as he returned a 72-3=69 to deny Darren Morris, and his son Connor who filled the places.

Frye played a largely fault free outward nine as he put together a run of eight pars, and only dropped his first shot on the ninth green.

He quickly grabbed the shot back as he birdied the potentially card-wrecking 11th.

And then he struck another on the 16th hole after a couple more dropped shots had briefly threatened his dominant display.

Darren Morris (78-5=73) shot nine pars with a birdie to come second, with Connor Morris playing a superb two under front nine to put himself in pole position, only to see his chances ruined with back to back triple bogeys on 15 & 16.

The category two division went to Richard Campbell-Carr as he posted 81-12=69 to see his handicap cut to 11.

David Kirk (77-6=71) filled the runners up spot.

The best nett score of the day came in the third division.

And it fell to 16-handicapper Geoffrey Roberts to slash two full shots off his playing handicap.

He returned a score of 82-16=66 to secure a three shot winning margin from Graham Potter (86-17=69) who also lowered his handicap.

The real story of the week came in the midweek Scott Spencer as Rochford stalwart John Gray won the ever popular stableford with 38 points.

Six handicapper Gray started extremely solidly as an early birdie and bogey were sandwiched between four pars as he arrived on the par three seventh tee level par.

Gray then took aim with a perfectly struck seven iron.

And the player watched with his playing partners as the ball pitched on the front of the green and made its way to the bottom of the cup for a great hole in one.

Once the excitement died down, Gray didn’t allow himself to get distracted.

And with five further pars on the way home he deservedly earned him the victory – and first place at the bar.

Neil Smith and Chris Chaplin filled the places as he both shot 37 points with the former snatching the runners up berth on countback.

Rochford ladies played their bronze shield match away at Stoke by Nayland and put up a brave fight before going down by a single point.

Meanwhile the ladies section also played some stableford golf at home with the Veterans cup being won Elaine Tucker on 35 points from Kay Campbell-Carr just a point back in second.

The Junior Veterans cup was closer still with Jo Rumsey denying Lorraine Norris on countback as both posted 34 points.
