FREDDY Eastwood is out to fire Southend United to more play-off glory.

The popular striker scored in both the semi-final and the final when the Shrimpers clinched promotion via the play-offs back in 2005.

And he is now hoping that history can repeat itself as Blues again bid to work their way out of League Two.

“I remember that year very well, it was fantastic and it would be great if that could happen again,” said Eastwood, who is now in his second spell with Southend.

“It was the first promotion of my career, we got to play at a fantastic venue like the Millennium Stadium and to score as well capped it all off for me.

“I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a number of memorable moments of my time with Southend but that would be right up there and winning at Wembley would also be fantastic.”

Eastwood bagged 65 goals in 136 games during his successful first spell at the club before going on to play for both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City in deals worth a combined total of £2.7 million.

The striker returned to Roots Hall in March 2012, initially on loan, and has scored 12 times in 73 appearances.

But he is now enjoying his football again and is keen to help any way he can in the play-offs.

“I would imagine I’ll be coming off the bench in the play-offs but I scored after do that at Burton in the league so I’ll be looking to do it again,” said Eastwood.

“I’m enjoying this season and I really feel a part of things again.

“I know I’m on the bench because other people are playing well whereas under the old manager (Paul Sturrock) he just kept with the same players whatever happened.

“That isn’t the case now and as someone who has been there and done it now I’ve quite enjoyed watching some of the football the team has played this season.

“We maybe don’t have the some kind of flair as the previous Southend team that went up but we probably pass the ball better and it’s great to be a part of.”
