This live event has finished

1:54pm

Burton Albion 1-0 Southend United

1:54pm

Leonard heads at goal and the 'keeper collects. Has to be it.

1:51pm

Leonard almost slips in Barnard but the 'keeper gets there first. He is being treated after being clipped on the back of the head.

1:50pm

Looks like Southend will be the first away side to lose in this season's play offs.

1:48pm

McFadzean goes in on Egan in the box with the away fans screaming for a penalty. Nothing doing.

1:47pm

SIX minutes of added time.

1:46pm

Egan staying up top.

1:45pm

Straker almost on the end of the corner but it is cleared. Constant Southend pressure now. Box loaded with players.

1:44pm

Brilliant save from Lyness! Hurst shoots and the ball takes a deflection with the 'keeper diverting the ball away. Vital save. Another corner for Blues.

1:43pm

Hurst nods the ball goalwards but the 'keeper collects.

1:43pm

Brilliant defending by Holness clears the ball from under his own crossbar. Straker was lurking. Blues corner.

1:42pm

Bentley comes for the ball but misses it completely. Ball is cleared. Five minutes of normal time left.

1:41pm

Palmer fires in a ball from the right and Atkinson gets a vital touch to clear for a corner.

1:39pm

Eastwood looks for the run of Atkinson but the ball only runs through to Lyness. Blues looking pretty devoid of ideas at the moment.

1:36pm

Break in play for a Burton injury.

1:30pm

Blues final sub - Lee Barnard replaces Corr to loud boos.

1:29pm

Understand Atkinson's move to full-back to allow for a change in formation but he had been Blues best player today.

1:28pm

Corr has been booked after one foul too many.

1:26pm

Straker is booked for a late challenge. He has had five minutes to forget.

1:25pm

4,581 here today.

1:25pm

Sokolik shoots wildly when he had options. Southend rushing things. 20 minutes with a man advantage is plenty of time to force an equaliser.

1:23pm

Straker's first involvement is to slash a slot out for a throw in.

1:22pm

Murphy and White are replaced by Straker and Eastwood. Atkinson slots in at right back as Blues go 4-4-2 with Eastwood joining Corr up front.

1:21pm

Leonard shoots over as Blues prepare their double change.

1:20pm

Looks like Eastwood and Straker are preparing for action.

1:20pm

Burton sub - Billy Kee is the man who makes way for David Gray

1:18pm

Blues have 30 minutes to make this one man advantage count.

1:17pm

A second yellow for the defender who clips Leonard who was storming through.

1:16pm

Sharps has been sent off for Burton.

1:15pm

Hurst attempts a shot but it is a long way off target.

1:14pm

Sharps is booked for deliberate handball. Blues freekick 30 yards from goal.

1:13pm

Blues attacking the goal their fans are behind second half. However, if the delivery from set pieces doesn't improve there won't be much to cheer about.

1:12pm

Rain has eased off a bit. Southend break through Murphy but he is not awarded a freekick after a tackle on halfway - not quite sure how!

1:10pm

White concedes a needless foul on the left and Hussey swings it in. McFadzean gets a shot away but it cannons off his own man and the ball is cleared.

1:08pm

Palmer replaces Ismail for Burton

1:07pm

Really greasy surface now. Southend will want to start shooting on sight if this rain continues.

1:06pm

Corner is collected well by Lyness under pressure.

1:06pm

Second half is underway. Rain is really coming down now. Murphy wins a corner on the right.

12:54pm

HT: Burton 1-0 Blues

12:46pm

Adam McGurk was slipped through and he dinks the ball over the onrushing Bentley. Worst time to concede.

12:45pm

It's a goal for Burton!

12:45pm

Murphy qlmost let in after a slip from Holness

12:43pm

Atkinson wins the ball in midfield and frees Hurst down the line. He ignores the run of Coker and sends in a looping cross that is cleared.

12:41pm

Hurst cuts inside and fires a shot straight into Lyness' midrift.

12:40pm

Really good banter between both sets of fans. Blues fans singing their hearts out.

12:39pm

Blues skipper White escapes a booking for a foul on the left and the freekick comes to nothing.

12:39pm

McGurk hits a low shot to the keeper's right and Bentley dives to push the ball away. Really good save to keep it 0-0.

12:35pm

Brown and Rowett exchange more words on the sidelines after Blues win another freekick.

12:34pm

Hurst wins a freekick to the left of the box after Edwards clips his heels. Coker and Hurst over the ball. It is whipped in and Egan heads over. All the pressure coming from the away side now.

12:32pm

Corr needs to watch his step here. He nudges Hussey in the ball to concede another foul. These are totting up now.

12:31pm

Corr clips Sharps and the home fans scream for a card. Burton boss Rowett has a lot to say to the 4th Official. Nothing given.

12:30pm

Chance for Blues! Corr wins a header from a Bentley freekick deep in his own half and the ball drops to Atkinson in the box. He takes a touch and fires goalwards but Lyness does really well to hold onto the goal-bound shot. Best opening so far.

12:27pm

Corr bends it high and wide. Poor as it was in a promising position for the visitors.

12:26pm

Freekick for Blues right on the edge of the box. Looks like Atkinson slipped but the defender never got a touch of the ball.

12:24pm

Brewers looking for the ball over the top for Kee but he doesnt stand a chance up against Sokolik.

12:22pm

Referee has had a good start. Some strong challenges going in but all of them fair. Game has a certain flow to it now.

12:20pm

Corr in a slight disagreement with the linesman but nothing comes of it. Burton break and Bell fires over after nicking the ball off Leonard just outside the Blues box. Nothing between the sides.

12:18pm

Leonard with a well timed break from the back but the ball is cleared for a Blues through deep into Burton territory. Ball is cleared.

12:17pm

Murphy gets in down the right and holds the ball up before crossing for Hurst. The ball drops to Hurst but his free header only drops to a yellow shirt. Moments later Coker picks up a booking for a late tackle on Ismail.

12:15pm

Brewers have made five changes from last Saturday's defeat to Blues.

12:11pm

We are ten minutes in and the game is finely balanced. Burton started well but Blues have come back into it well and look a threat down the left. Lyness has been forced into one real save and Corr has headed wide from ten yards.

12:10pm

Sorry for the delays the signal in Burton isn't great!

A great result for us, a draw would have been better but this sets us up nicely for the second leg to go through.

Well done Phil.

Not as clear cut, 1-0 normally would be a good result away but unfortunately once again we have no potent forward line which was evident today, so grabbing two goals is a task in itself ,perhaps some training on corners and free kicks wouldn't go amiss either.
Well Saturday is an important 90 minutes, let's not blow it and it would be nice to shut up the Burton moaner Gary Rowett who needs an anger management course.
