YOUNGSTERS at Thundersley Primary School showed their promise after finishing runners-up in a youth cup competition.

The Jim Smith Memorial Cup, an under-11s seven-a-side tournament, saw the Thundersley school face off against St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School, from Grays, at the Arsenal Academy in Walthamstow.

Thundersley Primary, who had beaten Sunnymede, Tudor Court and Our Lady of Ransom schools in the run-up to the final, lost 11-1 to their Grays rivals.

Billy Taylor, James Wells, Kye Smith, Callum Legg, Stanley Peek, Harrison Clow, Tommy Butler, Jack Hayes, Ben Ferns and William Hay were all suited and booted for the final, held on Thursday, May 8 and were cheered off by years’ five and six.

Coach Jim McManus said: “I am really proud of the team, they have worked hard to get to the final and we are all looking forward to a great match.”

Emma Dawson, headteacher at Thundersley Primary School, said “This was an unforgettable experience for the boys. To reach the final was a massive achievement and we are all very proud of them.”
