IT was double delight for Southend High School for Boys football teams as they were both crowned county champions.

The Year 7 team and the Year 8 squad both triumphed in their finals at Chigwell School last week and the school will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of football titles when their sixth-form side take on Shenfield at Roots Hall on Friday.

The final proved to be a cakewalk for the Year 7 team who thrashed Newham’s Royal Docks 7-0 after producing a superb, commanding performance.

Luca Albon got two of the goals, including one from the penalty spot, while Tom Farquharson, Daniel Monk, James Spencer, Jo Morgan and Joshua Colvill all got one each.

The team scored a whopping 34 goals on their way to lifting the trophy with their toughest clashes coming against south Essex opponents Castle View in the first round (Southend won 3-2) and King John in the quarter final where they edged a tight contest 2-1.

The Year 8 final was a much tighter affair but the team came through to win 2-1 against All Saints school, from Dagenham, and repeat the county triumph they achieved last year as Year 7 pupils.

Noah Chilvers got both goals for Southend against All Saints school to ensure his team completed the double for the second year in succession.
