Motorsport: Basildon rider Jesse Jones takes first podium of season in the Triumph TriStar R&G Triple Challenge at Donington Park
JESSE Jones claimed his debut podium as he overcame wet weather to finish third.
The 17-year-old rider from Basildon finished ninth in the first race at Donington Park.
But he overcame the disappointment to finish third in the Triumph TriStar R&G Triple Challenge second race at the Derbyshire track.
“It was a blinding race and for me to get on the podium on one of the tracks I’m not at home with was great,” said Jones.

Jones had only completed one flying lap before rain soaked the Donington Park circuit.
But he did enough to put his Triumph 675R on the second row of the grid by qualifying fourth.
However, a lack of experience of racing in the wet meant Jones slowly slid down the field and finished in ninth.
Jones knew he had his work cut out starting from tenth in the second race.
He made a good start and made up five places going into the first corner.

And he looked set for a fourth-place finish as rivals slid off but championship leader Freddy Pett fell at the final corner to let Jones take third place.
Benfleet rider Mason Law did not fare so well in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship.
The 18-year-old Trik Moto Kawasaki rider had set-up problems with the bike in the wet and did not get enough time on track to set a decent qualifying time. Law started the race from 22nd on the grid and then finished in 21st place after getting caught up in another rider’s accident.
“It was a bad race day for me but I know what I need to do in order to improve,” said Law. “I will forget it and move on.”
