YOUNG football stars showed off their promise at the divisional finals of the Southend & District Junior League.

Young teams from Wickford, Leigh, Billericay and Great Wakering won finals in different age groups ranging from under-13 to under-16 at the finals day, held at Roots Hall on Saturday.

Here is how Great Wakering Colts got on against St Cleres Colts.

Wakering looked like they were set for a comfortable afternoon after strikes from Sam Deary and Ryan Woodley have them a two-goal advantage heading into the break.

However, St Cleres had other ideas and Taylor Garwood and Ronnie Lacey struck to send the match into extra-time.

With extra-time ticking away man-of-the-match Sam Deary popped up to net the winner for Great Wakering.

“It’s a big highlight to play here for these boys and everybody associated with clubs,” said league secretary, Tom Clarke. “We have to say a big thank-you again to Southend United. By hosting the finals here each year, they do an enormous service to football in the community.”
