LEWIS Plato was philosophical after a spin in his second race at Brands Hatch today cost him a potential second podium.

The Billericay driver secured a comfortable win for his Mectech Motorsport team in the first of today's two Radical SR3 Challenge races at the Kent track.

But he made contact with another car as he challenged for second in the second race and the resulting spin eventually saw him finish in seventh place.

"I went for a move up Clearways again - the first time it worked and the second time it didn't - that's motor racing," said Plato.

"Andy is a good driver and didn't leave much room and as I went for it, there was a touch which took the front away.

"At the end of the day I had to go for it because if I hadn't I would have probably ended up in the same position because dirty air during the race makes it harder to overtake.

"It was frustrating but I would have felt more disappointed if I hadn't have gone for it.

"The next round is at Oulton Park next week, so it is a good chance to get straight back into action.

"Oulton is one of my favourite tracks and there are plenty of places to overtake there."

Plato was in third place before his move on Andy Cummings in the Supreme SR3 ended in contact and the spin at Clearways.

The Essex driver rejoined the race in eighth place and overtook Aaron Bailey for seventh on the 21st lap.

He pitted with most of the field three laps later and was locked in a duel with Shahin Nouri and Jesper Westerholm for fifth, sixth and seventh place for the remainder of the race.

Peter Belshaw took over during the pit stop window from Phil Keen to guide their Marks Electrical SR3 to victory after completing 50 laps.

Bradley Ellis, who had taken over from Cummings, finished second, with Plato finishing seventh 34.530 seconds behind the winner.
