BILLERICAY Town have bolstered their ranks by signing two new attacking players – including a former Football League star.

The Blues have brought in ex-Aveley man Junior Appiah and former League Two striker Ryan Charles.

Charles, 24, has played for a number of clubs, including Luton Town, Hinckley United, Kidderminster Harriers, Rushden & Diamonds, Cambridge United and Newport County, before signing for Merthyr Town last season.

Appiah is a pacy goal-scoring winger, netting ten times for Aveley before he joined Maldon & Tiptree in December.

And the 25-year-old says he was sold after hearing about manager Craig Edwards’ plans for the club.

“Craig gave me a call and explained his ambitions and I was sold,” said Appiah. “To be honest I was privileged he wanted me to be a part of it.

“I love playing the game and that is the most important thing. Aveley was great for me and I owe Justin (Gardner – Aveley manager) a lot, but I felt like a change.”

“It will be a step up for me but I don’t focus too much on the level. I will just work hard and give my all to the club and they go together well.

“I have always been told you don’t have to be a professional to act professionally and I want to show that to everyone at Billericay.”

Edwards said both additions were high quality but confirmed he was still in the market for a few more players. He has already re-signed centre back Chris Wild

“Both players will hopefully bring more quality and more of an end product,” he said.

“I think it was an area we needed to improve upon and Junior and Ryan will do that.

“We are look to add a couple more and it’s job done.”
