SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is lining up a summer swoop on two strikers currently with Premier League clubs.

The Shrimpers boss is keen to improve his side’s scoring record after they netted 56 goals in 46 league games last season.

And Brown has already identified who he would like to bring to Blues.

“I’ve made it clear I’m looking at trying to get us scoring more goals next season and there are two young strikers I’m trying to bring in to the club,” said the 55-year-old.

“I’m looking at bringing them in on loan because this club has had great success doing that in the past couple of seasons.

“But I’m also toying with the idea of maybe putting a bid in for these players who are still under contract at their clubs which are now both in the Premier League.”

Brown was not willing to name the players in question but is desperate to bring in new recruits in attack.

The Blues boss already has Barry Corr and Lee Barnard at the club but he now also wants to add some speed to the team in the final third.

Corr led the Shrimpers’ scoring charts with 13 goals last season while Barnard netted just once in 14 appearances following his return to the club from Southampton back in January.
