CANVEY Island have signed four players to strengthen their ranks with manager Danny Heale aiming to bring more goals to his team.

Heale has brought in ex-defender John Easterford from rivals Concord Rangers, combative midfielder and free agent Freddie Warren, striker Anthony Thomas from Hendon and winger Victor Osobu from Harrow Borough.

Canvey scored 65 goals in their 46 games last season and the Canvey boss says he is sure goals are running through the Gulls after the additions of Thomas and Osobu.

“Both these forward players will bring a great deal to us. Victor’s pace is frightening. If he goes past you there is no catching him and he is a very good crosser of the ball.

“Anthony will play just behind the striker but that hasn’t stopped him scoring throughout his career. They are excellent additions.”

Osobu scored twice for Harrow Borough at the Prospects Stadium last season so the home faithful will have some idea of the player they are getting, and Thomas netted 17 goals last season and an astonishing 72 goals in two seasons at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Meanwhile, Easterford rejoins after making 88 appearances for the Gulls between 2010 and 2012 before he re-joined Concord, where he was an important part of the team that won promotion to the Conference South.

“We know John well,” says Heale. “He is a Canvey lad and a big, strong defender I have played with in the past. He is an asset to the team and dressing room.

“As for Freddie, he was great for us at the backend of last season and contributed well. We look forward to him coming back.”

Warren made 13 appearances at the end of last season, and has played for Charlton Athletic and Staines Town. He also played alongside Dutch legend Edgar Davids before being released this summer.

Heale said the club would not be making any more signings until the start of pre-season but revealed he wants to add a goalkeeper to his ranks after Arsenal loanee Josh Vickers’s success last year.
