MEMBERS of Shoeburyness High School’s successful under-19 basketball team played around the clock for charity.

Kate Livermore, Jade Restell, Madi Townley and Georgia Holdaway staged a game for 12 hours to raise money for Havens Hospices.

The quartet, who were part of a side that won the league this season, were joined by more than 250 people throughout the day who jumped on to the court to keep the marathon match going.

PE teacher Jacquelyn Jobey said: “I am so proud of all the students. So far we’ve raised £1,600 for Havens Hospices which is a very close charity for most of us, myself included, as I lost my dad five years ago, while other pupils have lost family members.

“We even had family members there watching with cancer in awe of what we were doing.”

Pupils helped out by bringing in basketball cakes to keep the players’ sugar levels up! While parents and grandparents brought dinner in for the pupils.

Southend’s Majorette troop also performed, while Southend’s branches of Sainsbury’s, Wilkinsons and Primark all donated raffle prizes.

The students that raised the most sponsorship money were: Taylor Randall, Jack Allen, Heidi Boualili, Jade Restell, Tricia Hart, Lauren Speller, Tegan Jackson, Shannon Brook, Keeley Bourke, Lucy Morgan, Georgia and Lauren Andre, Charlotte and Carla Davey, Owen Young, Charlie Coles, Ellie Turner, Louie Davies, Millie Knight, Eleanor Glass, Sally Pearce, Brooklyn Kelly, Tricia Hart, Kaylah Neil, Ellie Robertson, Jake Brenton, Ellie Dulieu and Erin Woodley.
