SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is no longer attempting to bring Gavin Tomlin back to Roots Hall.

Brown had been keen on the striker returning from Roots Hall from Port Vale.

But the Shrimpers boss is now looking elsewhere with Tomlin now expected to join League One side Crawley Town.

“We had wanted to bring Gavin back in because he’s a good player but after talking to his agent it became quite complicated,” confirmed Brown.

“I understand he’s quite close to signing for somebody else now and we’re looking at other targets too.”

Tomlin scored 16 goals in 42 games with Blues before joining the Valiants at the start of last season on a free transfer.

However, he started just 17 of their league games last term and scored a total of six goals in 28 appearances.
