BROMFORDS School and Sixth Form College are competing to be the best in the country at this week’s National Handball Finals.

The Year 8 Under-13s in the team will be travelling to Birmingham on Thursday to take on three other schools, and are hoping to emulate the under-16 team, which were crowned national champions in March.

The Wickford school has already ensured they are in the top four schools in the country at the sport but are gunning for top spot.

They are already Essex and Suffolk champions, South East of England champions and South England champions but want to add the national title.

Chris Baker, head of PE at the school, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. To be one of the best four teams is great in itself but we want to win it now.”

The round robin tournament against Parrs Wood (North) Sale Grammar (North) and Woolwich Poly (South) will be held at Birmingham International Futsal Arena.
