It was a busy week of charity activities at Boyce Hill Golf Club.

Club captain Andy Taylor with members, Perry Lodge, Grant Beglam and Dave Smith took the challenge of playing five rounds of golf in one day at the home course. Sponsored by members and friends, they raised money for the Fairhavens, Little Havens, and St Lukes Hospices plus the Indee Rose Trust. Starting at dawn at 4.30am and finishing at 7pm they carried their clubs throughout the challenge.

Earlier in the week, Taylor and vice captain Chris Sexton had started their charity challenge by joining the captains and vice captains of the other four Kindred Clubs – Belfairs, Rochford, Southend and Thorpe by playing the annual four course challenge, with each club raising money for its chosen charities. They started at Belfairs at 4.10am, moved on to Boyce, then Thorpe and finishing at Rochford at 8.45pm in the evening. The pairs competed for the newly presented Dec Legget Kindred Challenge Trophy, which was won by Taylor and Sexton with 260 stableford points.

In the previous week, Boyce celebrated 25 years of its charity day, raising a further £15,000 for the Havens and St Lukes Hospices, taking the total raised since the start in 1989 to £465,000. The event was supported by 48 teams of four, from all over the county and some from even further afield.
