FORMER Hull City striker Craig Fagan is on trial with Southend United.

The 31-year-old has remained in touch with Shrimpers boss Phil Brown since their time together with the Tigers.

And Fagan now looks set to line up for Blues in their first pre-season friendly at Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday.

“Craig is someone I know very well, he lives in Southend now and he’s coming in for us to have a look at him during pre-season,” said Brown.

“He came in last season before going to Gillingham and he asked if he could do the same this time too.

“It’s a chance for him to keep his fitness up and it’s also a chance for us to have a look at him.

“He’s an experienced player and, right now, I expect him to play for us in our first pre-season game against Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday.”

Fagan came through the ranks at Birmingham City before spending time on loan at Bristol City and Colchester United.

He then joined the U’s on a permanent basis, scoring 33 goals in 74 starts before being snapped up by Hull for £125,000 in February 2005.

Fagan, who can also play on the wing, impressed during two years with the Tigers and was then snapped up by Derby County for £750,000.

However, he scored just twice in 47 appearances before returning to Hull, initially on loan in March 2008 before making the move permanent for £750,000.

During his second spell with the Tigers, he scored five goals in 68 games and helped a Hull team, managed by Brown, work their way in to the Premier League.

Once there, Fagan was sidelined by a broken tibia and was released at the end of the 2010/11 campaign.

Since then, the forward has played for Bradford, Bury and Gillingham and is currently available on a free transfer.
