CANVEY'S teenage cyclist George Wood has continued his excellent season with a sprint win over his team-mates at RAF Woodbridge.
Wood and his Richardsons-Trek colleagues claimed a 1-2-3 at Saturday’s race in Ipswich, out-sprinting their opponents to power to victory.
Eighteen-year-old Wood finished ahead of Dean Shannon and Joe Giggins in the top three, with Andy Lyons also coming in the top five.
Wood competed in the British Road Race Championships last weekend and has also finished well in the London Nocturne and won the Hatfield Puncheur meeting in May.
After the race, Wood said he couldn’t have asked for a better season so far.
“It has been fantastic,” said the 18-year-old. “The team rode a really good race and it was an absolute pleasure to ride with these guys. The last couple of laps put us in a good position and in the last lap I as able to press on and get over the line.
“I am so pleased with the way I am riding, especially after such an exhausting weekend at the British Championships. I got some good recovery time this week though and I felt fantastic heading into the race.
“I am already looking forward to getting back on the bike.”
