SOUTHEND United are keen to sign Rotherham winger David Worrall.

The 24-year-old still has a year remaining on his contract with the Millers.

Echosport understands that Walsall, Crewe Alexandra, Notts County and Oldham Athletic are also keen on signing him But Blues boss Phil Brown, who was not willing to confirm the identity of his latest transfer target, is still hopeful a deal can be completed.

“Hopefully before the weekend we will be able to bring another player in to the football club,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“He’s a winger who played in League One last season and would be a good signing for us.”

Worrall made just four appearances for Rotherham last term before being sent out on loan to Oldham Athletic, where he played 18 times.

The winger had previously spent four seasons with Bury, making 177 appearances.

Worrall also came through the ranks with the Shakers before joining West Bromwich Albion for £50,000 in March 2007.

However, he made just one substitute appearance while with the Baggies.

Worrall has also played for Accrington Stanley and spent time on loan with Shrewsbury Town.
