ANGLERS from Greensward Academy are once again Essex champions.
A team of four from the school, in Greensward Lane, Hockley, won the Essex Inter-Schools Anglian Championships 2014 for the second year running.
The fishermen – Harrison Scott-Duncan, Christopher Woodrough, Tommy Cherrill and Charlie Carter – narrowly beat The Thomas Lord Audley School with a weigh-in of 22lbs to their rivals’ 19lbs at Churchgate Lakes.
“After a very tense finish, I’m delighted we are champions of Essex again,” said teacher Mike Salisbury.
“Special mention must go to Harrison, who banked a 10lb carp with ten minutes of the match remaining to hand us the victory.
“We also had a B team competing – which consisted of Josh Forcer, Harry Noad, Christian Doody and Lewis Bell – who tried their best but couldn't quite get in the running with their final total.
“All eight students were impeccable throughout the day and were great ambassadors for the academy.”
