DIVISION THREE: Something will have to give tomorrow when the top teams in SNEL Division Three go head to head.

Stanford-le-Hope welcome Old Southendian & Southchurch to the Rec with both teams locked on 183 points.

And both skippers know that the result could play a big part in deciding whether they make a swift return to Division Two next month.

“It’s all or nothing with the 50-over games,” said Old Boys skipper Aaron Lucas.

“But I know if we perform how I know we can, then we are capable of winning and reversing the defeat we suffered against Stanford at home,” he added “It’s one of the games that feels like winner takes all but there are still plenty of games to play.

“We have won our last six on the spin, so we go into the game in good form.”

Stanford captain Lee Knight saw his team beat previous leaders Harlow Town last Saturday and is hoping to claim another promotion rival’s scalp.

“Southendian have to play Harlow Town in the last game of the season, so if we can beat them tomorrow that will really put us ahead,” Knight said.

“Harlow have a game in hand so it’s important we get a good result against Old Southendian.

“We will possibly have a couple of players missing but we are feeling confident. It is a top of the table clash and being 50-50 there will a result; we’re really looking forward to it.”

Harlow Town welcome Benfleet to Phoenix Park tomorrow and the visitors’ captain, James Wilkins, is upbeat despite his hosts only having been beaten twice all season.

“It will be difficult but there is no reason that we cannot pull a shock off because we are not a bad side,” Wilkins said as Benfleet aim to recover from their 65-run defeat to derby rivals Basildon & Pitsea.

“If you are going to beat the top three teams you have to win the toss and get a bit of luck.

“The boys realise we can win games, which is half the battle, and there were positives to take of the Basildon game. Our target of a mid-table finish is still very much a realistic one.”

Basildon skipper Michael Gray said it was imperative his team got the win over Benfleet as the men from Mopsies do not have a fixture tomorrow.
