SOUTHEND United have completed a trio of new signings.

As was revealed in yesterday’s Echosport, defender Mads Ibenfeldt and strikers Isaac Layne and Shaquile Coulthirst have all been snapped up by the Shrimpers.

And Danish centre back Ibenfeldt cannot wait to experience English football for the first time after signing a year long deal at Roots Hall following a successful trial period.

“My partner has a company that has moved to the UK and as I’ve always wanted to play in the English league at some point in my career, this was the perfect opportunity,” said the 29-year-old.

“I have had lots of experience in Denmark but I wanted a new challenge and that’s certainly what I’ll get having joined Southend.

“Before signing I had a short trial with Gillingham.

“Things didn’t work out there but I’ve really enjoyed myself since coming in on trial and I’m delighted to have signed.”

Striker Coulthirst was also thrilled to complete a season long loan switch from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old has previously time with both Leyton Orient and Torquay United.

And he is now looking forward to lining up for the Shrimpers.

“I’m really pleased to have joined Southend on a season-long loan,” said the former England under 19 international.

“There was some interest from other clubs but I know Southend are one of the biggest in this division so it was an easy decision for me to come here on loan.

“It’s a real chance for me to make an impression.”

Joining Coulthirst in making the switch to Southend is Layne who signed from Billericay Town and will also be vying for selection in attack.

The 19-year-old has signed a season long deal with Blues, with the option of a further year’s contract.

And he is keen to make the most of the step up.

“When the opportunity came up to join Southend I couldn’t turn it down and I’m really excited for what is to come.

“All I want to do is show everyone what I’m about and make a big impression on the manager, fans and my team-mates.”

Blues are still keen to make further signings and remain in talks with Bolton Wanderers defender Cian Bolger about a return to Roots Hall.
