HUNDREDS of well-wishers welcomed Max Whitlock back to Basildon’s South Essex Gymnastics Club last night.
The 21-year-old won three golds, a silver and a bronze at last week’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
And his coach Scott Hann was delighted by the reception. Whitlock received on his return to Basildon.
“It was brilliant, the reception has been great and Max deserves it,” said Hann.
“I know it made Max feel really proud and I was too seeing everyone here to support here.
“It’s also great that Max is able to give back to the people who have supported him and that he can say thank you to the club like this.
“All the kids and coaches here are right behind him and it’s a very special moment.”
Whitlock won team gold in Scotland and also triumphed in the all around competition and on the floor.
He took silver on the pommel horse and bronze on the parallel bars.
Whitlock will today also resume training today for his next big event, the World Championships, which take place in October.
